2026 Range Rover Evoque vs. the Competition

Evoque VS The Competition - Germain Land Rover North Hills
The Range Rover Evoque is the SUV that proved you can have a refined luxury experience in a subcompact. But today, nearly every major luxury brand has something to offer that competes with the Evoque. It’s only natural to wonder how these competitors measure up to the Evoque. That’s exactly why we made this guide, to give you the kind of in-depth look that’s needed to properly compare.

First up, we’re looking at the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and we’ve opted for the available 4MATIC all-wheel drive, since the Evoque has standard AWD. The GLA has a bit of a price advantage, but further differences start to present themselves immediately. The Evoque has more power, for example, and an exceptionally good towing capacity for this segment, not that it needs to be exceptional to out-tow the GLA, which isn’t rated for it at all. Speaking of transporting stuff, cargo space is always at a premium for subcompact vehicles, and although the GLA has a perfectly average amount of space, that does mean it falls well short of the notably large space in the back of the Evoque. Fuel tank size is probably something most people don’t really consider when buying a vehicle, but a difference of five gallons for smaller vehicles like these is quite significant, and GLA owners will find themselves stopping at the gas station a lot more frequently.

The Evoque costs a bit more than the GLA, so the fact that it comes with more standard equipment isn’t really very surprising. That said, there are still some things worth mentioning. For instance, the Evoque comes with a 12-speaker premium Meridian™ sound system, compared to the generic 6-speaker system in the GLA. Now, you can get a 12-speaker premium sound system in the GLA as well, but just this one option adds more than a thousand dollars to the price of the Mercedes, and you’ll notice that it quickly loses its price advantage even trying to approach the same level of equipment as the Evoque. In fact, the level of standard equipment on the GLA is shockingly low overall, with even features like heated front seats and adaptive cruise control, which by now are considered luxury vehicle basics, costing extra. And even though the Evoque doesn’t have standard heated back seats, at least you have the option of getting them, which isn’t the case with the GLA. Lastly, the Evoque comes with seats upholstered in genuine leather. This is another feature that Mercedes will charge you extra for, also forcing you to upgrade to heated front seats at the same time, altogether about another two thousand dollars to spend just getting the GLA to the same equipment level as the Evoque.

Our next comparison is to the Audi Q3, a model that attracts buyers with a seemingly low starting price. The Evoque is once again more powerful than its rival, and scores another easy win on towing capacity. The Q3 has a better standard stereo than a lot of the vehicles in this segment, but it still doesn’t quite measure up to the system in the Evoque, and the premium stereo available in the Q3 isn’t available as a standalone option, so you have to upgrade to a higher trim in order to have it.

Once again, the Evoque comes with a higher price tag but significantly more equipment. This seems normal at first, but it becomes clear pretty quickly just how aggressively stripped-down this base model is. Even pretty basic equipment like integrated navigation and a wireless phone charging pad isn’t standard on the Q3, and isn’t available as a standalone option either. And then there’s the equipment that isn’t available on the Q3 at all, like an auto-dimming rearview mirror or a heated steering wheel. Even the infotainment touchscreen in the Q3 is small and more difficult to see and operate than the one in the Evoque. Lastly, the Evoque gets a lot of attention because it’s easily the most stylish vehicle in the segment, but this is about more than just the shape of the sheetmetal. There are more paint colors offered for the Evoque, but the really dramatic difference is in the wheel options. Both vehicles have standard 18-inch wheels, and if you want something else, Audi offers a single set of 19-inch wheels as an alternative. But the Evoque is offered with nine different wheel designs in sizes ranging up to 21 inches. This difference exemplifies why the Evoque carries so much more luxury and style cachet than its competitors.

Range Rover Evoque VS BMW X2

For our last comparison, we’re looking at the X2, BMW’s attempt to bring a bit more style to the subcompact segment. Both vehicles come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and standard all-wheel drive, and the Evoque only makes 5 more horsepower. The difference in the drivetrains comes down to the transmissions, with the Evoque using an advanced 9-speed traditional automatic transmission. The X2 has a dual-clutch automatic transmission, which in addition to not having as many gears, is a bit more fragile and, therefore, not very well suited to towing. Of course, it’s hardly the only vehicle in this segment that isn’t rated for towing, just one of the ways that the Evoque is exceptional. The X2 also suffers from a small fuel tank, once again making for more frequent gas station stops.

At this point, it’s pretty obvious that the Evoque has the best standard stereo in the segment. Upgrading to a premium 12-speaker system in the X2 doesn’t cost as much as it does for other competitors, but the fact that it’s an extra cost at all is already a disadvantage against the Evoque. Leather upholstery isn’t available for the X2 xDrive28i at all, which is another clear advantage for the Evoque. The X2, as you probably expect by now, isn’t as well-equipped as the Evoque, with a heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise control as optional extras, and features like fog lights and heated back seats not being offered at all. The X2 does feature stylish bodywork and a decent range of paint colors and wheel options, but for both form and function, the Evoque is clearly superior.
