The Defender 110 starts off at a higher price than the GX, but it quickly becomes clear that the Defender is still the better deal. The Defender 110 comes with more standard horsepower, and for performance enthusiasts, there’s the option of an even more powerful V8 engine. If you’re unsatisfied with the power output of the GX, there’s nothing you can do, as there’s no optional drivetrain available. The Defender 110 also has an off-road handling advantage, thanks to the short and long arm front suspension, which allows for better wheel articulation on uneven terrain. And since off-road adventures usually require a lot of gear, it’s important to note that the Defender 110 has a lot more space for it in the back.
It’s not a big surprise that the Defender 110 is the better-equipped of the two, given that it costs more, but the difference in equipment is actually bigger than the price difference suggests. A heated steering wheel is standard on the Defender 110, but is an extra-cost option on the GX. The Defender comes with a better stereo, by a significant margin. Rain-sensing wipers, which are standard on the Defender, require you to upgrade to a higher trim on the GX. This brings us to the adaptive suspension, which is something you can get as an à la carte option on the Defender 110, but requires a trim upgrade on the GX. This is a problem across the whole Lexus lineup, where most equipment changes require a trim change as well. Wheels are another example that we can see here, with only one design offered per trim on the GX. And then there’s equipment like a ground view camera or fog lights, which aren’t available on the GX at all.

Winner – Defender 110
The Defender 110 is a luxury off-roader that does both luxury and off-roading better than its competitors. The GX does a better job than most, but it just isn’t quite enough to go up against an icon like the Defender 110. Not only that, but you have Land Rover North Hills to help you find the Defender that’s right for your next adventure.
