Both of these vehicles come in a wide variety of trims and configurations, so we picked the two most alike in price and purpose. Performance is a major selling point of both vehicles, and Mercedes tuned the 3.0-liter engine in the GLE to produce more power for this AMG 53 version. And while that certainly gives it an advantage over the base model, the Dynamic SE trim of the Range Rover Sport is available with a 4.4-liter V8, which produces quite a bit more power than the Mercedes. In fact, it’s enough to give the Range Rover Sport a 0-60 advantage of more than half a second, a rarity for two such similarly-priced vehicles.The GLE has a bit of a price advantage over the Range Rover Sport, but taking a closer look at the equipment will tell you why. The Range Rover Sport comes with more speakers, and when it comes time to customize the look of the vehicle, it also gives you a better selection of wheels. But what’s really surprising is the difference in standard equipment. Heated back seats might not be standard in every vehicle in this segment, but a heated steering wheel is pretty basic equipment in this price range. And considering the high-performance nature of these vehicles, the fact that the GLE doesn’t come with standard adaptive suspension is also a pretty glaring omission. The cost of outfitting a GLE with the same equipment as the Range Rover Sport very quickly undoes the slight price advantage, and even once you’ve done that, you still get less power and slower acceleration.

Significantly better performance, better style, and more standard equipment always make for a winning combination, and the Range Rover Sport pulls this off effortlessly.
